Scope
FOMI has established itself as an international forum where academic researchers and industry professionals come together to analyze and discuss practical challenges related to methods, theories, tools, and applications grounded in formal ontologies. There is broad consensus today that knowledge modeling and the semantic dimension of information are becoming increasingly crucial in the networked economy. Semantic-based applications aim to offer frameworks for knowledge and information sharing, reliable data exchange, meaning negotiation, and coordination both across distinct organizations and within the same organization.
Theoretical ideas often appear highly promising, yet their practical implementation frequently reveals unforeseen challenges and issues. The FOMI Workshop seeks to gather valuable insights and lessons learned by showcasing:
  1. Experiences with challenges in applying ontologies.
  2. Fresh perspectives on well-known problematic issues.
  3. Novel research findings.
  4. Success stories and observations from ontology implementations.
  5. Insights and lessons on effectively applying ontological methodologies to real-world scenarios.
FOMI will foster open discussions and the exchange of experiences. Similar challenges often emerge across diverse ontology applications, and open dialogue can help identify commonalities and share ideas for potential solutions. FOMI welcomes researchers and practitioners from all fields who share this perspective, with no restrictions on the domains addressed, including business, medicine, engineering, finance, law, biology, geography, electronics, and more.
The FOMI series is supported by the Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA) and organized by the IAOA-ISTC committee.
